HA1 Task 3 Analysis

 Web Banners / Attractors

Tiffany & Co. on Vogue.co.uk
The first advertisement is from Vogue.co.uk, and it features an advert for Tiffany & Co. Jewellers. This advert has a teal background with black text and pictures of their product, which stand out from the background. This advert fits well with the advertising space as this product would be featured as an advert in the magazine and relates to the theme of the website, fashion. Vogue is mainly aimed at designer areas of fashion, which again relates to the advert because Tiffany & Co. Jewellers is a high end jewellers. The advert is well placed on the website because it appears just below the newest story on Vogue and several times as you scroll down. It makes the viewers eye go directly to it because of the colour theme. It also gives the viewer an idea that they could have the Vogue lifestyle by buying this product, by comparing the advert to the newest stories above it and comparing the product to the featured article. This advert compared to the other two adverts relates well to the advertising space and the theme of the website which is what the intended target audience would like to look at.

Braun on MTV.co.uk
The second advertisement is from MTV.co.uk and it features an advert for Braun which is a german consumer product company. The advert features a gradient background of the colours black, silver and white with the company logo and information about the product in white over the black part of the banner. on the lighter side of the banner, there is a scroll menu of where this particular product is available to purchase. The picture of the product features in the middle of the banner alongside an offer. This advert appeals more to women as some of the text is either pink or in a pink circle. I think the advertising space is well placed as it noticeable as soon as you go onto the website, and it is featured twice, making it more attracting to the eye. I think Braun chose to advertise on MTV.co.uk because of MTV's target audience of around 17+, which they would appeal to the women of that target audience more because of the typical things that age range would do such as going out clubbing which would mean they would want perfect skin, (such as shaving legs) and perfect hair e.g. This advert, compared to the other two, is not ideally placed on the right website because it doesn't relate to MTV in anyway, but it stands out which makes the audience's eye go directly to it.

Mastercard on Asos.co.uk
The third advert is on Asos.co.uk and it features an advert from Mastercard which is an american financial service. The advert is a banner type. It has a teal background with slanted bright, bold orange text saying, 'Epic' which is featured on either side of the advert. In the centre of the banner, the words, 'Make it an' in red, bold text and the rest of the sentence, '#Epic Summer' in the same orange, bright, bold text. The master card advert is also featured to the right of the centred text. I think this advertisement is mainly based a target audience of women/girls because it is featured on a clothing website, which it is well placed because Mastercard is also a payment method available on this particular website. Although the advert is quite bold and eye-catching, it is only featured at the bottom of the page, which the audience would only see by scrolling to the very bottom. It is also featured on this website because the two companies together are running a competition to win Justin Timberlake concert tickets, which can be won by clicking on the mastercard advert which takes you to another page and gives you details on how to win. To win, you must take a picture which 'sums up your summer' and post it online with the hashtag, '#EpicSummer' to be in with a chance of winning. This advert, compared to the other two, is very placed by location but not very well placed on the website as it is only viewable by scrolling to the bottom of the page.

HA1 Task 1 Glossary

Pixel
'Pixel' is short for Picture Element which are little tiny dots of illumination, from which an image is composed from on either flat screens or TV boxes. They are so tiny that you can't psychically see them individually, which is better as blocky images are known as 'pixelated'. However, if you set your monitor to a low resolution, such as 640x480 and look closely at your screen, you will may be able to see the individual pixels. As you may have guessed, a resolution of 640x480 is comprised of a matrix of 640 by 480 pixels, or 307,200 in all.

Resolution
Screen resolution is on a digital TV, a computer monitor or a display device such as a phone. It is the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that is currently displayed. It also refers to the sharpness and clarity of the screen, sort of like HD.

Screen Ratios
Screen ratios is the aspect proportional relationship between the height and width of an image such as X:Y. The most common ratio used today in presentation of films in cinema is 1.85:1 and 2.39:1. The two common ratios for video graphics (games) are 4:3 and 1.33:1. The aspect for universal 20th Century Fox is 16:9, and for high definition television as well. The most common ratios for photography are 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9 which is found in most common cameras.

Frame Rate
Frame rate or as it may be commonly known, frame frequency, is the rate at which an image moves on an electrical device. This term applies to cameras, TV's, video cameras and motion graphics. Frame rate is often shortened to FPS,which the human eye can process 10-12 FPS, perceiving them individually.

Video Formats
Video format is the electronic medium for recording, copying and broadcasting of a moving image. Video formatting also reduces the amount of pixeleation and reduces the storage space. The main types of video format would be HD, SD, PAL etc. HD is the highest resolution. It either runs on 720p or 1080p. The ‘p’ means progressive.

Video Compression
Video Compression is made up of sequences of images. Video compression algorithms use the statics that there are usually only small transitions from one frame to the next so they only need to encode the starting frame and a sequence of differences between frames. This is known as inter-frame coding or 3D coding.

Video Composting
Video composting is combining elements from different sources into one single image, to create the illusion that it is all part of the same image originally. The most popular ways of video composting today are green screens, chroma keys and blue screens. Not all composting is done by digital manipulation in person, others can include apps such as Adobe After Effects.

HA2- Task 1 Research

E4 estings is a competition run by the channel E4, it is where the public can send in their weirdest, wackiest videos to be shown on the E4 channel in between programmes in the ad break. the video has to be 10 seconds long and must include the E4 logo and music, supplied by the E4 website. 25 entries are chosen and put on tv, then the winner is picked from the variety hosted on air, alongside 3 runner-ups, who get £500, with the winner getting £5000.

This is an example of a finalist.

This is an example of a winner, from 2013.

HA2 Task 5 Review

With this project, i think i managed my time correctly and effectively to achieve the final outcome of my E-sting. I also think i followed my schedule on time and stuck to my original idea to finish on time.
My production log explains what task i did to get further to completing the E-sting and at what date. First of all i created a mind map of ideas that i knew weren't already out there due to researching previous E-stings and put them together with the general idea and a small un-detailed picture of my interpretation of that idea. I then chose an idea which was the skeleton with the E4 logo being the beating heart. I then created storyboards of my idea and came up with timing for the movements within the sequence. I then scanned the mind map into a computer so i could have my ideas on screen next to me while i researched templates for my chosen idea. I found templates online of a skeleton that i felt was right for my idea then saved the image and uploaded it to Adobe Illustrator and completed a pen portrait of the skeleton to make it slightly cartoon to match the E4 logo. I found this easy to do as i had completed a pen portrait before and therefore knew what i was doing, but it took a little bit of time with the colouring stage as i had to remember the specific numbers of the colours for each part of the skeleton.
With my version of the skeleton, i saved the skeleton's rib in separate sections due to the E4 heart eventually breaking out of the rib, this made it easier to edit in Adobe After Effects when all the pieces were together. I then put everything into Adobe After Effects and edited the sequence to fit together such as timing the heart beating and the hand covering the chest and the heart eventually exploding out of the chest. I found this part of the whole process a bit harder than other things, but overcame it with help from the teacher and a bit more understanding of the programme. I then downloaded an E4 sting soundtrack from the E4 website that i felt was right to match the E sting and edited it to attach to the sequence. I then exported the sequence so it became an actual video and uploaded it to my YouTube channel then embed it into my blog.
Overall, i think my time was managed well and efficiently as i got it done on time and stuck to my production log and my schedule. I liked doing this project but wouldn't do it again as i thought i didn't do my best in production. I feel like i could've spent more time on the production to make the movements look better and not stiff. It also took me a while to get use to AfterEffects as its not my best programme to use as i don't use it often as i should.
